Indianola Baseball tops Norwalk 8-3, notching fifth consecutive win

The Indianola baseball team broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to an 8-3 home win over Norwalk on Monday night, heard live on the KNIA3 stream.


Indianola junior Asher Brueck pitched 4 ⅔ innings for the win and capped the Indians’ fifth with a three-run homer just inside the right field foul pole. Indianola entered the inning with a slim 3-2 lead, but got a leadoff single from Andrew DeWall, an RBI double by Bo Blake and Brueck’s three-RBI bomb.


DeWall sparked the Indians throughout the game, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth for his lone RBI. He also had a great night defensively at shortstop. Bo Blake finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and George Blake also hit an RBI double in addition to pitching the final 2 ⅓ innings for the save.


Norwalk was only outhit 9-8 by the Indians and had four doubles on the night. The Warriors committed three errors defensively, however, each leading to an unearned run. Garrett Geurink took the loss, allowing nine hits and five earned runs in 4 ⅓ innings.


Norwalk took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Colton Moore’s leadoff double, Cole Wardlow’s single and Rhylee Schmidt’s RBI double. The Warriors later tied the game in the fourth on Konner Holtorf’s double and Kingston Lamb’s two-out RBI single. Moore and Schmidt both went 2-for-4 with an RBI, combining to hit three doubles.


Indianola’s fifth straight win improved their record to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Indians host Knoxville in a makeup game tonight at 7:00 p.m. Pregame coverage on 94.3 and 95.3 KNIA will begin at approximately 6:45. Norwalk, now 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the LHC, returns to action Wednesday night, hosting Dallas Center-Grimes for a varsity doubleheader at 5:00 p.m.
