Norwalk senior Carly Brewer put on a show in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, leading the Warrior softball team to a pair of victories in the Xavier Classic. The Class 4A fourth-ranked Warriors defeated 4A No. 7 Clear Creek-Amana 7-2 and beat 5A No. 12 Cedar Rapids Kennedy 4-2. Both games went six innings.
Brewer, who hit a grand slam in Friday night’s win at Newton, added four home runs on Saturday to raise her season total to nine. Against Clear Creek-Amana, Brewer hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot during the team’s five-run fourth, good for five RBI. She drove in three more runs vs. Kennedy, hitting solo homers in the first and fifth innings and adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Norwalk senior Nyah Hulbert went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored against the Clippers and Dani Peters hit a pair of singles. Leah Crick pitched all six innings for the win, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out three.
Maddie Gullion finished 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored against Kennedy while Hulbert hit a double. Brewer also excelled in the circle, recording seven strikeouts in a six-inning five-hitter.
The Norwalk softball team improved to 16-2 overall and will host Bondurant-Farrar on Monday night at 7:00. The Warrior baseball team will also host the Bluejays for a varsity doubleheader at 5:00 p.m.
