On Thursday night, as broadcast live on 95.3 KNIA, the Pella Christian softball team upset Knoxville on the road.
In five innings, the Eagles defeated the Panthers 9-0. With Mia Durham starting for Knoxville, the Eagles surged for five runs in the first inning and four in the second. After finding her rhythm in the third inning, Durham shut down the Eagles lineup in the third and fourth innings, giving up no hits or runs and only issuing one walk. Durham was hit in the leg by Laurel Roozeboom’s hard hit single in the fifth inning, which caused her to leave the game with an injury.
Starting pitcher Laurel Roozeboom of the Eagles was outstanding throughout the game, recording two walks, striking out two batters, and only allowing one hit in the five innings pitched, which came from a single by Ayla Williams in the fifth. During the competition, Amia Agre, Brynn Roozeboom, Laurel Roozeboom, Maddy Van Zee, and Jessica DeVries contributed five hits to Pella Christian’s total. Thanks to a two-run home run in the second inning, Brynn Roozebook managed to collect three RBI during the game. According to Eagles head coach Mindi Kacmarynski, her squad is improving significantly from the previous season and is beginning to play quality softball at the proper time.
It truly doesn’t alter because our entire strategy is always to compete at every pitch. We truly do, even though I realize that sounds a bit corny. Whether it’s offensively or defensively, we’re going to compete at every level and keep improving. I adore these girls because they play with such enthusiasm. They truly support one another, and since our practices are so demanding and they push one another, I believe we have a bright future.
Chris Peden, the head coach of Knoxville, says he is proud of his players for keeping up their hard work.
I hope these fans will keep it in mind. These youngsters, who are between the ages of 14 and 18, are giving us all they own. I know these girls very well, and I know they want this, so I don’t want people to think my ladies aren’t giving everything they have. They are showing up, and they are putting forth the work and maintaining the mindset I want of them. Given that I am aware of the kind of girls these kids are, we will make this click and go for a brief run here.
Tonight, Pella Christian will host Des Moines Christian, improving their season record to 6-11. Knoxville will visit Centerville tonight after losing 1–11.
