This morning, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued in south central Iowa due to wind gusts detected by radar. From 6:15 to just before 7 a.m., the KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team broadcast a warning that affected the majority of Jasper County. Numerous communities in the listening area had multiple rounds of moderate-to-heavy rainfall due to scattered thunderstorm activity, which also brought reported wind gusts of high to 45 mph in Newton. A Weatherology meteorologist provided updates as part of the live on-air coverage, which was supplied by three staff members. Over the following few days, the area will experience extreme temperatures. Any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Marion, Warren, or Jasper Counties is covered live by the KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team.
