The Eagles baseball team lost to the Lions 8–4, but the Pella Christian softball team defeated Des Moines Christian 9–2 on Friday night to win their fourth consecutive game.
After the first two innings, the game on the softball diamond was tied at 1-1, but Pella Christian won the game handily, extending their winning run to four games for the first time since May 24-27, 2023. After scoring four more runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead, the Eagles added three more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to win the game. Chloe Snyder, who went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three runs scored, an RBI, and a double, spearheaded Pella Christian’s offensive effort during the game. In addition to recording the game-winning victory in the circle while striking out four and giving up only one earned run, Laurel Roozeboom had a fantastic night for the Eagles, going 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs, a double, and a run scored. The Pella Christian softball team’s recent four-game winning streak has improved their season record to 7-11.
The Eagles baseball team’s offensive started well against the Lions but faltered in the closing minutes of their 8–4 defeat. Des Moines Christian scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth, giving the Eagles a slim 4-3 lead, while Pella Christian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the second inning and added single runs in the third and fourth frames. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lions ended the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning and added four more runs in the seventh to put Pella Christian at 5-17 for the summer. Logan Gallaher, who went 3–4 and scored two runs, was the only Eagle to have multiple hits during the game. With a solo home ball to left field in the third inning, Eliot Menninga became one of four Pella Christian hitters to earn an RBI for the evening. Brecken Ritzert, Grant Kelderman, and Finn Spronk knocked in the remaining three runs.
On Monday, the Eagles will play their third and last Tulip City Showdown game against Pella. The softball game will be streamed live on KRLS2, and the baseball game on Monday may be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
