The Norwalk softball team defeated Ottumwa 11-1 and lost to Wayne 7-2 in the Oskaloosa Indian Classic on Saturday, finishing 1-1. Now 22-3 for the season, the Warriors are ranked second in Class 4A.
Carly Brewer, a senior at Norwalk, hit a game-winning triple in the third inning against Wayne, but the Falcons, who are ranked second in Class 1A, broke the 2-2 tie with five runs in the fifth. Due to a time limit, the game stopped after five innings. Bailey Birmingham scored a run and went two for three for the Warriors. After pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and five earned runs, Brewer was defeated. She struck out eight hitters while walking five.
Norwalk defeated Ottumwa 11-1 in four innings, scoring 10 hits. Maddie Gullion went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Dani Peters added a double and one RBI, Nyah Hulbert hit her 14th home run and scored twice, and Cambry Livingston went 2-for-3 as well. Leah Crick struck out three batters in her three innings of work to win the game.
Oskaloosa hosts the Warriors
Tonight at 7:00 p.m., the Norwalk softball and baseball teams will host Oskaloosa in their Little Hawkeye Conference return to action. Pregame coverage will begin at around 6:45, and the baseball game will be webcast live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3). The Warrior softball team has an 11-2 conference record, and the baseball team is 8-5 at home against the Little Hawkeyes.
