Central Adds 107 to New Academic Honor Society Chapter

Chi Alpha Sigma is a national honor society for students who succeed in both academics and athletics, and Central College accepted 107 student-athletes into its new chapter.

Student-athletes must play varsity intercollegiate sports, obtain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above, and attain junior academic standing or higher following their fourth full-time semester in order to be considered for selection. If the local chapter’s athletics department is in charge of the club team, student-athletes who play for a collegiate club team are also eligible.

Nick Mourouzis, a former head football coach at DePauw University, formed Chi Alpha Sigma in 1996. His intention was to give exceptional student-athletes the chance to join a fraternal organization that would support their academic endeavors and sports achievements for the rest of their lives. Thirteen schools and universities in Iowa are among the 499 active chapters spread over 47 states.

The advisor for the college’s chapter is Dr. Lori Witt, an assistant professor of history and one of Central’s faculty representatives for athletics.
