Monday’s Suspended Newton Softball Game To Be Resumed, While Cardinal Baseball And Softball Return To Action Tonight

Due to severe rain, Monday night’s Little Hawkeye Conference softball game between Indianola and Newton was postponed until Monday, June 30. With the Indians ahead 13–6 in the fourth inning, the game was suspended. It will start again in Newton at 3 p.m. on Monday. Rain on Monday also caused the Indianola vs. Newton baseball game to be curtailed short. Five innings had been played when it was stopped in the top of the sixth inning, making it an official game. 2-1, the Indians prevailed.

The weather also forced the cancellation of Newton’s softball and baseball games at Clarke on Tuesday. The softball game will not be made up, but the baseball game will be on Monday, July 7.

The Cardinal softball and baseball teams will play doubleheaders against Dallas Center-Grimes tonight to resume Little Hawkeye Conference play. The first softball game starts at 5:30 p.m., while the baseball twin bill starts at 5 p.m. On June 9th, the Mustangs won both of their games in Newton. The softball team won 17-0 in four innings, and the baseball team won 11-1 in six. Newton’s record is 2-14 in the league and 4-18 on the season, while Dallas Center-Grimes baseball is 9-5 in conference play and 13-8 overall. The third-ranked Class 4A Mustang softball team is 22-2 overall and 13-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Cardinals softball team is 6-15 for the season and has a 2-13 conference record.
