Pleasantville Softball Downs Pella Christian in High-Powered Offensive Matchup

The Pleasantville softball team defeated Pella Christian 12–8 in a non-conference game on Eagle Lane on Tuesday night, scoring a total of 20 runs and 29 hits.

With three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Eagles took an early lead in the game. Before Pella Christian tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the third, the Trojans responded with five of their own runs in the top of the frame. Pleasantville thereafter permanently seized the initiative. Pleasantville won 12-8 thanks to the Trojans’ four runs in the fourth and three in the seventh innings, while the Eagles only scored one run each in the fifth and seventh innings. Harper McGraw, Clara Metcalf, Faith Nelson, and Taylor Perkins each had two hits during the game and combined to bat in seven of the Trojans’ twelve runs, which helped them win. In Pella Christian’s defeat, Laurel Roozeboom and Chloe Snyder each went 3–4, with Roozeboom scoring two runs and Snyder earning two runs and an RBI. Alee Phillips, the head coach of Pleasantville, praised her team’s defense for playing a fantastic game and making multiple run-saving plays that helped them win.

With the win, the Trojans went 12-7 overall, while the Eagles dropped to 7-13 for the summer. Pleasantville will play Des Moines Christian tonight at 5 p.m. after their May 16th postponement, and Pella Christian will travel to Oskaloosa tonight at 5:30 p.m. for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.
