On Monday, the Newton softball and baseball teams will play Indianola at home in an effort to win their third Little Hawkeye Conference game. The baseball team lost a doubleheader at Indianola earlier this month by scores of 12-2 and 2-0, and they have now lost five straight games. The Cardinals are 4-17 overall and have a 2-13 conference record. With an 11-3 record, the Indians baseball team is in first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference. After splitting a home doubleheader against Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday, Indianola is now 19-4 overall. They won game one 4-2, but lost game two 6-4. Oskaloosa defeated Newton 6-1 in both of their home baseball doubleheader games on Friday.
The Cardinal softball team, currently 2-13 in conference play and 4-16 overall, will be looking to snap a six-game losing run. Indianola is 13-10 overall with eight Little Hawkeye Conference victories and five defeats. Earlier this month, the teams split a doubleheader at Indianola. The Indians won the second game 13-0 after Newton won the first one 12-3. Friday’s home doubleheaders ended in defeat for both clubs. The Dallas Center-Grimes trounced Indianola 14-4 and 13-0, while the Cardinals fell to Oskaloosa 7-4 and 8-6.
