Norwalk Softball earns decisive sweep at Davenport Central; Warrior squads host Eagles tonight

In a doubleheader sweep of the Blue Devils on Tuesday, the Norwalk softball team traveled to Davenport Central and amassed 29 runs and 31 hits. After winning the first game 18-7 in six innings, the fourth-ranked Warriors in Class 4A dominated the nightcap 11-2 in five.

Six innings over the day saw Norwalk produce crooked numbers, including a seven-run second inning, a four-run fifth, and a five-run sixth in game one. Leading the Warriors’ 19-hit assault, Hallie Karnatz went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Leah Crick went 3-for-5 with a solo home run while Maddie Gullion went 3-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Bailey Birmingham, Hailey Hook, and Nyah Hulbert each contributed two hits. Birmingham crossed the plate four times, and Hulbert hit a home run to score three runs. Crick secured the victory by pitching three relief innings.

With 12 hits in game two, the Warriors took command thanks to a three-run first, a five-run fourth, and a three-run fifth. Carly Brewer went 3-for-3 with four RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Hulbert hit her 12th home run of the season, and Birmingham and Gullion both singled and doubled. In addition to adding a double, Lillian Garvey threw four innings, walking just one hitter and striking out six.

Tonight, the Norwalk softball and baseball teams welcome Pella Christian in their return to Little Hawkeye Conference action.
