Jennifer Aniston is finally commenting on what the tabloids termed the infamous love triangle involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, over two decades after her well-publicized breakup with Pitt.
In her August 11 Vanity Faircover article, the Morning Show actress reflected on that highly criticized time period and shared some unexpectedly open thoughts. She informed the site that it was quite juicy for people to read. They had tabloids if they didn’t have their soap operas.

Aniston didn’t sugarcoat her emotions when she said, “It’s unfortunate that it had to happen, but it did.” And I took it really personally, boy. In reference to the story that made headlines when Pitt started dating Jolie after shooting Mr. & Mrs. Smith, she referred to that time period as simply the “love triangle years.”
The actress’s candor regarding her feelings of vulnerability at the moment was refreshing. She acknowledged, “I didn’t have a strong enough constitution to not get affected by it.” She also emphasized that no one genuinely agrees to intrusive, emotionally taxing media scrutiny, and that celebrities are still people despite their status as public figures. Even if some individuals don’t want to accept it, we are human. They believe that since you joined up, you should accept it. However, we didn’t actually sign up for that.
Her coping strategy was straightforward and based on fortitude. “Girl, just get back up on your feet and keep going,” she added.

Aniston also remembers how journalism used to feel more like a spectator sport than a real profession. She acknowledged that everyone has some PTSD, mentioning how interviews still give her anxiety. She pondered how they may misunderstand what I said or take things out of context.
Aniston’s solid female friendships, which kept her grounded, were also highlighted in the Vanity Fair article. She is still close to Gwyneth Paltrow, who dated Pitt years ago, and they continue to give each other life advice. When asked if they discuss their shared ex, Aniston chuckled, of course. How are we unable to? We are females.
Pitt and Jolie’s relationship, meanwhile, went from being the sexiest in Hollywood to one of its most notorious splits. Their chemistry in Mr. & Mrs. Smith developed into a captivating real-life partnership that culminated in a grandiose 2014 wedding. Jolie, however, filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences barely two years later.

One of the most chaotic celebrity divorces in modern history swiftly resulted from the split. The public was exposed to claims of heated debates and parenting conflicts. Jolie accused Pitt of being abusive on a private flight in 2016, a charge he has vehemently refuted. Although the FBI did not charge anyone as a result of the incident, it caused a wedge between the two.
Both parties made claims in court documents during the years-long legal battle for custody of their six children. The once-golden pair had turned into a cautionary story about how love, celebrity, and familial expectations can turn into mistrust and resentment by the time their divorce was formalized.
In retrospect, Aniston seemed to have accepted her part in that story. She may not have chosen to be involved in a triangle that made headlines, but she has come out of it with humor, perspective, and a sense of self-preservation.
