Texas DemocratWith her scathing comments about why the majority of Black Americans avoid the Republican Party, Jasmine Crockett has once again blazed a trail across the internet. The outspoken lawmaker didn’t hold back when she spoke on a panel at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. As a preacher’s child, I frequently converse with Black people. Listen, the majority of Black people are not Republicans for the simple reason that we are all racists. I can’t spend time with them and the Klan. “That’s what it is,” Crockett said honestly.
She continued by pointing out that even while a large number of Black Americans do hold conservative views, the GOP’s affiliation with hate groups is a deal-breaker. However, when we consider our origins and identity as Black people, the majority of us hold pretty conservative beliefs, don’t we?
However, the truth is that we simply cannot support them or the neo-Nazis. We like, we don’t—we don’t deal with you all that way, do we? She went on to say. Her unvarnished honesty caused a stir online but garnered plaudits in the audience. Right-wing critics and MAGA supporters jumped in. The KKK was a Democrat. She is such a lie, and one irate X user responded. Another added: Let’s be clear: Democrats, not Republicans, created and operated the Ku Klux Klan during the Reconstruction era.
In addition to being untrue, Crockett’s assertion that Black people shun the Republican Party due to alleged ties to the Klan is a purposeful misrepresentation of history. She deliberately overlooks the reality that many segregationist Democrats defected to the Republican Party during the Civil Rights Movement’s realignment.
Others mocked Crockett’s speech pattern, ignoring the history lesson and going straight for the insults. She speaks in that ghetto Ebonics garbage, which is so disgusting. One critic remarked, “She is trash.” She was frankly labeled a racist and a bigot by another. The reality, of course, is far more nuanced.
Victor Davis Hanson is new. *TORCHES* Crockett, Jasmine
“Jasmine Crockett is like a Christmas gift to the Republicans that was gift-wrapped.”

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Klan did have close ties to Southern Democrats. However, segregationists were pushed into the GOP by the civil rights struggles of the 1960s. Then, in an attempt to win over disgruntled white voters, Republicans adopted what became known as the Southern Strategy.
Even in more recent decades, former Klan grand wizard David Duke supported Donald Trump in 2016 after running as a Republican. Additionally, research indicates that counties with active Klan chapters tended to lean Republican over time. Therefore, even though Crockett’s remarks are profound, they are based on a convoluted past that still influences American politics today.
