Republican U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri will be a featured guest at Iowa Republican U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson’s fifth annual BBQ Bash campaign fundraiser on August 23 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, along with national conservative commentator and Republican political strategist Scott Jennings, the Hinson campaign announced Thursday.
In a month, this will be Schmitt’s second visit to the state. Additionally, on Saturday, he will join Texas GOP U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, the 2016 Iowa Republican presidential caucus winner, at Republican Iowa Attorney General Brenda Bird’s third annual “Big Barn Bash” fundraiser at the Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel.
In a statement released by her campaign, Schmitt, the former Missouri Attorney General, commended Hinson as a staunch conservative who has consistently backed the President’s agenda. He added, “I am eager to travel to Iowa to support her.”
In order to provide results for hardworking people, Hinson referred to Schmitt as a “no nonsense attorney general” who has been a true warrior for the America First agenda, standing firm against the insanities of the Left.

Nathan Sage, a U.S. Senate candidate, will go to 99 counties in 99 days in Iowa.
Nathan Sage, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Iowa, will go to all 99 counties in 99 days.
Sage, an Indianola veteran and former executive director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, announced his 99% trip of Iowa on Thursday. Sage is vying for his party’s nomination to compete against Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst in the 2026 midterm election.
According to Sage, the journey would enable him to hear Iowans’ aspirations, challenges, and ambitions. It begins in Warren County on Friday and ends in Polk County on November 4.
Sage stated in a press release, “There are many folks out there who are working hard to make ends meet in this state and in this nation. “What am I doing if I can’t visit 99 counties in 99 days when others work three jobs a day to provide for their families? We will win this race if we put in the same amount of effort as everyone else in Iowa.”
Sage’s announcement comes a few weeks after Rob Sand, the Democratic candidate for governor of Iowa, began his own 100-stop tour, which would take him around the state over the coming months.
State Representative J.D. Scholten of Sioux City and Senator Zach Wahls of Coralville are two more Democrats running for the Senate. In June, Jim Carlin, a Republican and former Sergeant Bluffs state representative, also started running against Ernst.
Ernst has not publicly declared her intention to run for reelection, but as of the end of June, she had more than $3.4 million in her campaign war chest and had recruited a campaign manager.
All of the tour stops are listed here.
Trone Garriott is endorsed for Congress by a national association.
Sarah Trone Garriott, a Democratic state senator and candidate for the Iowa 3rd Congressional District, is receiving support from a national organization in her 2026 campaign.
Trone Garriott was endorsed by New Politics, a national organization that backs candidates nationwide who have served in the military or other national service programs like AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps.
After graduating from college, West Des Moines Lutheran minister Trone Garriott worked in AmeriCorps.
“Our democracy is in dire need of a servant leader like Sarah Trone Garriott. Emily Cherniack, the founder and executive director of New Politics, said in a statement that her path from AmeriCorps VISTA member to hospital chaplain to state senator demonstrates a persistent dedication to helping others. Sarah can find common ground to deliver outcomes and support Iowa families when it counts most, as seen by her recent bipartisan efforts to reduce prescription drug costs.
Next year, Windsor Heights resident Trone Garriott and former Iowa House Minority Leader Jennifer Konfrst will compete against incumbent Republican U.S. Representative Zach Nunn.
