As a noteworthy accomplishment, Cedar Rapids Prairie qualified for the Class 4A state golf meet for the first time in four years and for the fourth time in school history.

The Hawks started this season with yet another impressive victory and brought back four starters.

Prairie tied their best result at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet with a team 18-hole score of 292. At the Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion on Monday, the Hawks finished eighth in the fiercely competitive Linn-Mar Invitational.

Regarding the start, Prairie Coach Erik Columbus expressed his satisfaction. Our depth is one of our keys.

According to Columbus, the team does not take into account the division of the program between junior varsity and varsity. They refer to them as the Varsity A and B squads. In a competition at Gardner Golf Course, the J.V. shot 308, which was good enough to beat the starting lineup of certain schools.

In the 1970s, we had four children. I suppose it’s a good problem. During the offseason, all of those men did the proper things.

The fall season has consistently improved as a result of spring and summer golf. Before competing in local summer events like the Rotary Pribyl and the Cedar Rapids Optimist Junior Golf Association matches, Columbus said 10 to 12 golfers even participated in a winter simulator golf league.

Columbus described it as a sort of mixture. In the summer, we urge them to play. That, in my opinion, aided them in entering the spring and summer competitions. They immediately saw some quite positive outcomes.

Airport National was where our soldiers resided. They look after us well.

The highest returning golfer is junior Henry Sobaski, while C.J. Keenan, Tony Boelter, and Emmett Stockdale are all back. The program has been led by the senior trio, which includes Jeter Lewis and Connor Columbus as starters.

At the Super Meet, Sobaski, a two-time state competitor, led the Hawks with a score of 71. In his second season as a varsity starter, Boelter has had a solid start. He tied for fourth on Monday with a 1-under 71. His gains have helped the Hawks, as he is averaging 71.5 per round.

“That’s not surprising,” Columbus replied. He recently finished with our 21st-lowest average since 2010, but he had a fantastic first year on varsity last year.

Columbus has seized the chance to serve as Connor’s varsity coach. He entered the lineup after making one appearance the previous season.

Columbus remarked that he had enjoyed himself out there. Watching him play varsity and coaching him has been a lot of fun.

With a team combined adjusted average of 152.90, Prairie ranks 14th in the state. Among Metro and Iowa City teams, they are just one stroke behind No. 11 Linn-Mar and little more than three strokes behind No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier. After the Super Meet, Prairie led the MVC Valley and positioned itself to compete for its first divisional crown.

Titles and another state trip are not on the Hawks’ radar. Their focus is on the immediate area in front of them.

According to Prairie Coach Erik Columbus, the outcomes will take care of themselves; what counts is what we say for the next shot. We don’t become overly fixated on outcomes. Our two main tenets are execution and present-moment awareness.

You must treat yourself in the same manner regardless of whether you made three consecutive triples or albatrosses.

CLOYD RUNNER-UP MEETING AT HOME

Christian Cloyd, a senior at Linn-Mar, tied for second place at Hunters Ridge on Monday at the Linn-Mar Invitational. Cloyd matched Vaughn Roseman of North Scott with a 2-under 70. Jonathan Ward of Waukee shot 8-under 64 to win the medal.

With 298 points, Waukee Northwest defeated North Scott and West Des Moines Dowling by three shots. The host Lions finished sixth with 304, while Xavier came in fourth with 302.

Eight teams in the top-15 of 4A were on the field.

Columbus compared every tournament to a mini-state competition. We are able to compete against some excellent teams.
