Xavier Cedar Rapids When Coach Brandon Schiltz mentioned that he saw a lot of excellent golf on Thursday, he gave a little laugh.

His excitement about the Saints’ first performance was understandable.

By shooting 289 and winning the team championship at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet at South Hills Golf Course, Xavier set a school record. Logan Otting tied for second place with 3-under 69, and all six Saints fired 78 or higher. Linn-Mar finished third at 296 and Xavier defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie by three shots.

Schiltz stated, “I think it gives all the boys a lot of confidence.” The entire team was playing really well.

Logan had an amazing day today, I’m sure of it. We capitalized on certain course circumstances and the weather. It was excellent. I believe we played the intended game with a great deal of confidence.

At the Warrior Invitational at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon last season, the majority of the same group smashed their own record of 290. This year, they set the bar high from the very beginning.

Twelve of the other fourteen conference schools would have taken into account the scores that Xavier did not use on Thursday. Dubuque Wahlert and Prairie were the outliers.

According to Otting, the scores are not a coincidence. If they play well, all of our men can shoot in the 70s or high 60s.

I simply can’t wait for the remainder of the year. We can aim much lower in the future, in my opinion. What this team has in store excites me.

Otting proved why he should be ranked first in the lineup. He equaled Jackson Stanford of Waterloo West and finished one shot behind Drew Larimer, the winner of the Cedar Falls medal.

In the offseason, Otting has spent a lot of time putting; he reads putts for over an hour every day, double-checks his setup and aim, and rolls the ball. In the first game of the season, the effort paid off.

Otting stated, “I’ve been ball-striking really well lately.” Although I’ve hit a lot of greens, I’ve begun making more putts that are between 10 and 15 feet for a birdie today. To give myself some buffer throughout the round, I made a fantastic eagle putt on No. 3 and followed it up with a couple of excellent birdies.

He had a great start to the round, scoring 34 on the first nine. That eagle helped him finish three-under after three holes.

Otting stated, “I was able to build up a good drive there so that I only had like a mid-iron into that par 5.” I also managed to get that one close. Thus. I was in a nice position after going 3-under through three, and I was able to roll a couple putts in and get calm early.

Harrison Hartke, a freshman and 2025 Pribyl champion, shot 73, Pranay Monga added 75, and Jack Pauly, a senior at Xavier, shot 72. The Saints’ depth and balance relieve pressure since you don’t need to be flawless to lead your team to victory.

Otting remarked, “I feel like I wasn’t even nervous going into the day.” I understood that we had a lot of depth and that the guys had been putting in a lot of effort if I didn’t perform well. Additionally, knowing that you don’t need to play flawless golf to consistently lead your team to victory relieves some of the strain.

Xavier will immediately return to his job. Tomorrow morning marks the start of practice, and next week will be another demanding program.

Schiltz said, “We’re going to go celebrate this one.” We’ll be right back at it tomorrow, so make sure we take the time to do that. We are reviewing team objectives. As a result, our entire team will be outlining our goals for the year. We’re off to a terrific start already. Our standard is so established. We can now get started right away, and on Monday, we’ll be back at the Linn-Mar (Invitational).

Henry Sobaski’s 71 put Prairie in sixth place. For the Hawks, Tony Boelter and Emmett Stockdale had shots of 72 and 73, respectively. With a score of 76, Jeter Lewis completed Prairie’s score.

The Linn-Mar team of Christian Cloyd and Max Faulkner tied for fourth place with individual scores of 70. Trevor Denny scored 77 and Kael Smith scored 79 for the Lions as well.
