Civil Rights Leaders Say Trump’s National Guard Move in DC Is About Control, Not Crime

Published On:

Following his news conference announcing the National Guard’s deployment to Washington, DC, civil rights activists blasted Trump. They are referring to it as a federal coup and a misuse of authority that also stems from the conflict among the Black community.

Trump declared that in order to eradicate homelessness and violence in the city, he would send 800 men of the National Guard. While lamenting the city’s growing crime rate and pointless rallies, he declared a terrible emergency.

He has demanded control of the city, which is governed by the Congress council and the mayor, in the previous few instances. According to his previous post, in order to clean up the city, they would need to deal with crime.

The mayor can assist, but if it doesn’t work out, he will handle it alone. Civil rights groups claim that this is a means of depriving people of their rights. Derrick Johnson has defended the city, arguing that it has the right to self-govern and that there is no emergency in Washington, DC.

Simply said, this is an authoritarian takeover. Like a tyrant, Trump is snatching up power, and he won’t stop in Washington; your state or city will be next.

The NAACP president added that a federal coup is not necessary for DC. During the George Floyd protests in 2020, Trump and DC leaders had already clashed, and he also wanted Black Lives Matter placards taken down from the streets. He threatened to halt federal funds, so they were taken out.

This action is being criticized by civil rights leaders as a cover-up to seize control of the Epstein controversy. To avoid taking responsibility for not making the Epstein documents public, they are attempting to deflect all focus from this.

Both our democracy and the individuals who need the most care—those living on the streets—will suffer, according to the president of the National Action Network. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, who supports democracy, stated that the city belongs to the people and that this action is a significant overreach.

DC It is our city, not yours.

A District of the Federal Government

The capital of the world’s most powerful nation

A legislative act that grants home-rule allows you to have some degree of control over the area.

You are incapable of fulfilling that mandate.

Trump wouldn’t have stopped DC from using its own funds if he truly cared about the city. Even though crime in Washington, DC, has decreased, Trump continues to call for the national guard to be deployed.

It may then be necessary to combat similar misuse of power in other cities with Democratic mayors, such New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. When something like this is announced, they must be prepared and not feel helpless.
