Donald Trump’s tendency to post venomous updates on his Truth Social platform. Trump intensified his battle against crime in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night with yet another post, stating unequivocally that the White House is in charge.
According to him, the capital of the United States has one of the worst rates of crime in the world, possibly even higher than those of places like Mexico City, Bogot, and even Fallujah. People are too afraid to call the police, he says. The streets are being run by gangs. He continued his lengthy tirade by saying that if D.C. were a state, it would have the highest homicide rate in the union.
According to The Daily Beast, he went on to declare that Trump has taken control of the city’s police force and deployed 800 National Guard troops because D.C. is full of thugs and residents live in constant fear of being targeted. He claims that the town will be cleaned up and restored to its former beauty and safety.
Trump’s comments were swiftly fact-checked by several news sources since they were more serious than his often ambiguous ones. According to PolitiFact, the homicide rate in D.C. has dramatically dropped since 2023, when the crime numbers he cited were taken.
According to the outlet, there were 27.3 homicides in the city for every 100,000 residents in 2024. Violent crime in D.C. has decreased by 35%, the lowest level in over 30 years, according to a Justice Department report published in January, just before Trump’s inauguration. Trump’s portrayal was also contested by a New York Times investigation, which noted that 49 cities globally have greater homicide rates than Washington, D.C.
NEW: According to President Trump, Washington, D.C., has one of the highest crime rates in the world. The city’s homicide rate is higher than that of areas known for their violent crimes. In little more than ten years, the murder rate has practically doubled. The actual numbers are even worse.Tweet: https://vAyCp5sWSe

Detroit, New Orleans, and St. Louis are these cities. Therefore, in the end, PolitiFact declared Trump’s assertion that D.C. had the highest homicide rate in the world to be untrue. In the meantime, Donald Trump has sent some 800 National Guard members to Washington, D.C., claiming that there is an out-of-control crime epidemic.
Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act allows the president to assume emergency command of the D.C. police, therefore there is an exception for the president in this case. However, it is only good for 30 days until Congress extends it. Trump also alluded to the introduction of a new federal criminal measure that would target the nation’s capital.
The president asserts that vicious gangs, ruthless criminals, and homeless people have taken over the US capital.

Donald Trump has previously made untrue statements on the internet. He has a history of disseminating election-related false material and making ludicrous allegations of widespread voter fraud after 2020. He repeated these actions in 2024 and 2025.
He deliberately targeted states like Pennsylvania, for example, and made a number of false claims, such as “We ended up winning Pennsylvania in a landslide.” Trump won Pennsylvania by fewer than two percentage points, therefore this claim is obviously untrue and extremely misleading.
Last year, violent crime in Washington reached a 30-year low, therefore there isn’t an increase in crime. But Trump brought that obsession to the White House after worrying about urban decay for decades.
“Our entire nation is filthy if our capital is filthy,” he declared.

On a number of other occasions, he is accused of lying frequently in addition to snubbing reporters’ queries and deftly sidestepping the conversation. He is already under a lot of strain because of his recent breakup with his erstwhile best buddy, Elon Musk, and the fact that his name was brought up in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In addition, his administration has angered many with its harsh deportation tactics and the alleged cruel treatment of detainees at Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz, which has sparked protests in states like Texas and California.
Perhaps because he is still as obstinate, quick-witted, and erratic as ever, the former business magnate hasn’t given up and is being urged to restore America to its previous glory, his way.
