Plans to resurface the east and west sections of State Highway 117 in Prairie City have been announced by the Iowa Department of Transportation. About a mile of the road, also known as 2nd Street or Old Highway 163, will be reduced to one lane with a pilot vehicle during the project. The resurfacing is expected to begin at the end of July, with construction taking about a week, according to the State Department of Transportation. The project will be managed by InRoads Paving of Des Moines, which promises that at the end of each workday, both lanes of traffic will be open.
