Four People Charged in Newton Death Investigation

The Newton Police Department has charged four people in relation to the death of Tomie Lee Misner, Jr., age 66, as a consequence of the ongoing investigation. The following people have each been charged with Obstruction of Prosecution or Defense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Abuse of a Corpse, a Class C Felony:

Newton resident Jeffrey Alan Stevens, 53Des Moines resident Scott Ray Mabrier, age 63Hudson resident Thomas Patrick Olofson, 4736-year-old Alysha Anne Buell of Des Moines

The investigators claim that the persons failed to declare the death, attempted to conceal and dispose of the body, and concealed or destroyed physical evidence. Until the findings of the toxicology and autopsy are in, the cause of death is still being investigated.

Local, county, and federal law enforcement officials carried out a search warrant at 1210 N 4th Avenue E in Newton on Monday, June 9th at around 7:03 p.m. Misner was discovered deceased within the house while the warrant was being executed.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, and the Jasper County Attorney’s Office all provided assistance to the Newton Police Department during the investigation.
