Tomorrow marks the start of a modest change to the weekly household recycling collection time in Newton, as well as higher garbage and recycling collection prices.
A new five-year agreement with Dodd’s Solid Waste and Recycling was authorized by the Newton City Council, and it goes into effect on July 1. It includes a monthly increase of $3.39 for the collection and disposal of waste and recyclables. The home collection rate in Newton is $15.16 per month; tomorrow, it will increase to $18.55. Leaf bag collection, Christmas tree pickup, landfill and recycling tipping fees, and rubbish and recycling collection are all included in that charge. The new agreement with Dodd’s also includes an automatic yearly fee adjustment linked to the Urban Consumer Price Index. Additionally, Dodd’s request to move the recycling collection start time from 9 p.m. to 7 p.m. was granted by the Newton City Council. According to Mayor Evelyn George, rubbish pickup is unaffected by the switch.
Recycling must be on the curb by 7 p.m. at the latest for the City of Newton pick-up. It’s midnight and the trash is still there. Although they will do separate rounds, it would be ideal if you could ensure that your recycling is out by 7 p.m.; the garbage can be removed at a later time.
