Iowa has implemented the Hands-Free Driving Law, which forbids drivers from using their hands to use any electronic device while operating a motor vehicle. Brian Sher, the chief of police in Indianola, tells KNIA News that this is a step in the right direction for driving safety since too many accidents and injuries are caused by individuals using their smartphones.
This is such a stupid way to get hurt, or worse, murdered. It indicates that you are unable to hold your phone in any manner. You are unable to manually text, scroll, or use your phone in any other manner. Addresses must be entered into your GPS before you start driving or when you pull over. I see Tik Tok from the car all the time, therefore I’m not using it anymore. Social media, films, and SMS are completely blocked. Additionally, unless you are utilizing a hands-free gadget on your phone, you are unable to text, call, or dial.
According to Chief Sher, they will only issue warnings between July 1st and December 31st. However, beginning January 1st, 2026, they will impose a $100 fine and deem the ticket a traffic offense.
