The Indianola baseball and softball teams both won their tournaments on Saturday. The baseball squad defeated Waterloo West 14-3 and Dowling 15-1, while the softball team defeated Martensdale-St. Mary’s 4-1 and I-35 14-3.
In game two, the Indians fell behind 3-0 to the Roadrunners before scoring 14 runs in a row, led by two home runs from Sam Gripp, one from Ava Tichy, and a grand slam by Alexa Guyer to end the game early. Tessa Gripp hit a two-RBI single and Sam Gripp drove in another. The Indians, who are currently 16-12 on the season, will play Newton on Monday. They lead 13-6 going into the fourth inning.
Jackson Foust pitched five innings to help the baseball team defeat Waterloo West, and Zach Benge, Asher Brueck, Bo Blake, Andrew DeWall, and Dallas Harlan all recorded two hits. DeWall went 4-4 at the plate and drove in three runs, Blake, Max Wedmore, and Dax Heimbaugh each received two hits, while Taten Atkin pitched five innings to get the win against the Maroons. Indianola, who are now 25-4 on the season, will play Urbandale in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
