Monday’s weather-shortened 2-1 road victory, which was broadcast live on the KRLS3 Stream, gave the Indianola baseball team its 20th victory of the season and a series sweep over Newton.

Due to the possibility of severe weather, the game was postponed until 4 p.m. and was halted by lightning in the top of the sixth inning. After five innings, when heavy rain started to fall, the game was formally declared a final. In the third and fifth innings, Indianola scored two runs thanks to three stolen bases, one hit batter, and one Cardinal error. Both teams had three hits. In the fifth inning, Andrew DeWall reached on a throwing error by Newton, which allowed the winning run to cross the plate. DeWall also batted in the Indians’ first run with a sacrifice. Brody Merema, Max Wedmore, and Daxton Heimbaugh all had Indianola hits.

The score was knotted at one in the bottom of the fourth inning without a single, while Newton left five runners on base in the first two innings. After the two batters behind him were struck by pitches, Landry Rausch walked to start the inning and scored on a putout. Lane Rozendahl had a single and Skyler Millheiser went two for two with a double.

The Indians, who are now 20-4 overall and 12-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, will play a doubleheader in Norwalk on Wednesday. The Cardinals, who are now 2-14 in the conference and 4-18 overall, will play a non-conference game against Clarke today at 7:30 p.m.
