The softball team was swept in game two, which was broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA, while the Indianola baseball team split a home doubleheader against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs on Friday.
George Blake pitched five innings and Bryant Ritchie came in for the two-inning save as Indianola baseball won game one 4-2. Blake led the offense with a 1-3 at-bat record and an RBI, while Max Wedmore and Ritchie each drove in a run. The Indians lost 6-4 in game two after making several mistakes that let the Mustangs take the lead. They came close to winning, but let up two runs in the seventh inning to lose. The offense was chilly, as Andrew DeWall pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs. Indianola’s season record is now 19–4.
The softball team was defeated 14-4 in five innings in game one and 13-0 in four innings in game two after running into DCG’s hot bats. Sully Downey hit a home run to extend the game another inning, and Sam Gripp hit a home run in the fifth, but the deficit was too great. In the first game, the Indians took a short 2-1 lead after scoring a run on a wild pitch and an error. However, DCG would score 11 consecutive runs to go up 12-2 in the fourth. Game two ended early because the Indians allowed nine runs in the second inning and were never able to recover. The softball team’s season record drops to 13-10.
Both teams will fly to Newton on Monday after taking the weekend off.
