In a Little Hawkeye Conference game that was broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS on Friday night, the Indianola softball team defeated Pella Christian at home.
Alexa Guyer’s leadoff home run kicked off the Indians’ offensive explosion, which saw them score nine runs in the first inning. With the Indians scoring eight hits in the first inning, Indianola would plate thirteen. To secure the lopsided victory of 17-0, Indianola would score two more runs in the third inning and six more in the second. Ava Tichy and Sam Gripp each had several hit games during the match, while Guyer had four hits. Indianola used a number of pinch hitters off the bench in the third inning. As the Indians’ starting pitcher, Tichy kept the Eagles to four hits in the game, with two coming from Brynn Roozeboom and one each from Amaia Agre and Rachel Kacmarynski.
After a challenging week, Indianola head coach Stacy Evans says she feels like her team finally clicked on Friday night.
I’m thrilled that so many of our players attended the game tonight, and I’m really proud of the girls. This week has been difficult. Some of our games have been quite intense. There have been times when we played really well, and we have occasionally connected on hits, but tonight was just a great night with everyone hitting the base paths with all of their might. After making some changes to our lineup, Guyer is now in the lead, followed by Tessa and Sam, with the rest of the group trailing behind.
Mindi Kacmarynski, head coach of Pella Christian, said she thought her team was still playing well at the plate in spite of the defeat.
I believe we had some really good at-bats, even though we didn’t score any runs. Although they aren’t always meaningful hits, I felt that Rachel’s at-bats were of high quality. She gets on in the first inning. I was happy with their approach to the plate and their strong ball hitting since they were searching for a good pitch and making good contact. We are playing Indianola for the third time, and to be honest, neither DCG nor Norwalk have seen the ball as well as Indianola has.
With a victory over Martendale-St Marys at 10:00 am, Indianola will begin a home tournament today, improving to 14-2 on the season. Pella Christian will play again on Tuesday against North Mahaska after dropping to 8-15 on the season.
