After losing the 2024 presidential race, former Vice President Kamala Harris is now stepping out of her self-imposed hiatus. Additionally, this is to promote 107 Days, her memoir. A behind-the-scenes look at her brief but historic 2024 presidential campaign is provided by her memoir.
Harris had her first significant media appearance since leaving government when she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Harris and Colbert had a conversation about the emotional toll of the defeat and the difficulties of the campaign path. In addition to these business-related insights, she also shared a personal story about her spouse forgetting her birthday with the crowd.
“I traveled the country for 107 days, fighting for the future,” Harris said Colbert. Additionally, she referred to it as the shortest presidential campaign in contemporary history.
Following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race due to health issues, Harris’ campaign got underway. In order to maintain Democratic control of the White House, this prompted Harris to enter a fiercely competitive presidential race. But Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, defeated her. Her quest for what may have been a historic presidency came to an end with this.
Simon & Schuster published the memoir, which will be available on September 23. It explores the campaign’s chaotic nature.

This book focuses on Harris’s tenacity rather than her loss in the presidential race. Additionally, Harris is being reintroduced to the American public. A lot of people are questioning if this is about setting the stage for a political resurgence.
As the first woman and the first woman of color to hold the position of vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris has already made history. However, she withdrew from public life and mostly avoided the spotlight following her election defeat.
However, in a highly deliberate move, Harris returns to the national conversation by appearing on Colbert’s now-canceled show. Additionally, this suggests that she is not yet finished with politics.
In her book, Kamala Harris tries to explain. Eventually, she bursts into a fit of laughter and roasts her husband.

There were a few humorous moments mixed in with the somber and weighty conversation about the election, campaign trails, and her defeat. One such instance occurred during the campaign when Harris described how her spouse, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, truly failed to celebrate her birthday.
She laughed and remarked, “He forgot that it was my big birthday.” For a political figure who is frequently depicted as being unduly serious, it was a moment of humanization. This instance also demonstrated the need of mindfulness and how campaign pressure may strain interpersonal connections.
Colbert: Are you reserving yourself for a new workplace?
HARRIS: Not at all. That isn’t it.

Harris also responded to rumors regarding her future in politics. She has stated that she will not run for governor of California in 2026. However, some are optimistic that she may possibly make a comeback to politics soon given her media appearances and the publication of her memoir.
As expected, Donald Trump made fun of Harris at a Michigan campaign rally. He made fun of her communication abilities and jokingly suggested that he might purchase her book to see how awful it is.
It’s unclear if 107 Days will spark Kamala Harris’ political career again, but one thing is certain: she’s tired of remaining silent.
