During its meeting on Monday night, the Knoxville School Board authorized the calling of an election.
In order to build a new elementary school in the Veterans District, $12.4 million in general obligation school bonds are being issued. In the past few weeks, community members have been gathering signatures for a bond referendum that will be on the November 4th ballot. As of Monday’s meeting, the petition had 253 eligible signatures. The petition needed 108 signatures from district residents who were eligible to vote, or 25% of the voters who cast ballots in the most recent school board election.
The board also approveda resolution designating a date for a hearing on the proposed issuance of roughly $26 Million school infrastructure sale, service, and use tax income and refunding bonds which will take place July 14th. The board approved a girls soccer fundraiser and a replacement of the high school gym sound system from Daktronics and Ardent Lighting for just over $36,000 as the meeting came to a close.
