Tonight, the Knoxville School Board will decide whether to call an election.
In order to build a new elementary school in the Veterans District, $12.4 million in general obligation school bonds are being issued. In recent weeks, people of the community have been gathering signatures for a bond referendum that will be on the November 4th ballot. The petition needed 108 signatures from district residents who were eligible to vote, or 25% of the voters who cast ballots in the most recent school board election. A resolution setting a hearing date for the planned issuance of roughly $26 million in school infrastructure sale, service, and use tax revenue and refunding bonds will also be considered by the board. The board will discuss a girls soccer fundraiser and replacing the high school gym’s sound system before adjourning the meeting.
The Knoxville School Board meeting will begin at the district office at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
