In Knoxville, a man from Otley was taken into custody for felony burglary.

Court documents state that a Knoxville police officer received a report of a break-in at 302 N. Roche St. on June 5. While the victim was at home asleep, it was stated that two weapons and other small household items were taken from a bedroom. Curtis Kane, the burglar, allegedly broke in through a small basement window. The police was informed by a witness that on June 4th, he witnessed a short-haired man with a little dog take two gun cases from the victim’s property.

From the crime site, a trail of laundry detergent spills was followed to a house three blocks away, where a laundry detergent bottle and a star bit screw were found in a trash can. Items removed from the victim’s home matched other items found outside the house. According to the residents of this residence, Kane was related to one of them and occasionally stopped by. The residents of the second location gave permission for officers to check the interior of their house, and no evidence of theft was found. Kane was spotted strolling past this house with the dog while looking into this auxiliary scene. After speaking with Kane, an officer located a screw in his pocket that matched one that had been found in the laundry detergent trash can.

The victim reported missing a shotgun bore cleaning snake, which an officer saw Kane carrying on the afternoon of June 5. Kane informed Chief Aaron Fuller that he was missing a walking stick with lightning bolts on it on or around June 6. On the outside of the victim’s home, a cane of this kind was found. In an interview with an officer on June 19, Kane acknowledged entering the victim’s home through the basement window. Kane faces a Class B felony charge of first degree burglary.
