Melcher-Dallas Baseball Wins A Thriller, Softball Loses A Run Rule Game

On Friday, the Melcher-Dallas Summer Squads faced Seymour in two completely different games. The Warriors rallied to equalize the score after the Saints went out to a significant lead, but Melcher-Dallas ultimately won 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh. When Evan Schrader walked it off with a bases loaded single to right field, scoring Tucker Branson, Seymour scored three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth to tie the score. The Saints were ahead 8-2 after three innings and were dominating offensively. With three RBI in two singles, Schrader was the lineup’s star batsman. Reece Chiabotta shut down Seymour with eight strikeouts in two relief innings. Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports that the team’s resilience in the face of hardship sets them apart from previous Saint teams.

Ferguson: We’ve been above 500 this late in the season for the first time in a long time, and this team is a little different this year. They find ways to fight and scratch.

Due to the run rule, the Warriors scored eight runs in the third inning on their way to an 11-1 triumph, sending fans home after the fifth inning. The softball Saints did not have nearly as nice of an experience with Seymour. There were only two hits for Melcher-Dallas, one from Emma Ripperger and one from Hayden Branson. Today, baseball will travel to Moravia for a make-up game, while the softball team will host the Coal Miners Classic.
