Monday marks the start of the last week before playoff play for the Newton softball and baseball teams.
The baseball club still has two games left in the regular season, both of which are away games. The Cardinals will play Des Moines Christian on Tuesday night after traveling to Osceola on Monday to play Clarke. With a 5-24 record, Newton’s baseball team will play their first postseason game against Clear Creek Amana on Friday. The winner of that Class 3A Substate 6 game advances to play either Fort Madison or Cedar Rapids Xavier. The Clippers are 18-11 overall.
With one game left in the regular season, the Cardinals softball team is 8-19. Senior Night will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. with Class 3A #4 PCM. The softball team’s tournament begins Thursday in Pella against the 18-12 Dutch in a Class 4A Region 5 match. On Saturday, July 12th, the team that advances will play at Carlisle.
