The Newton baseball and softball teams will travel to Pella Christian Monday for a pair of Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders. The teams played each other in Newton just over two weeks ago, and the Cardinals won both games. The baseball team prevailed 8-4, but lost senior catcher and captain Skyler Millheiser to an injury, while the softball team won 15-4. Since playing the Eagles, the Newton baseball team has lost eight straight games, and have scored a total of eight runs, while being shut out three times. The Cardinals record is 3-12 overall and 1-9 in the conference. Pella Christian’s baseball team is 4-14 on the season and has lost all eleven of their conference games.
Newton’s softball team is coming off a 10-1 home loss to Class 4A #4 Norwalk Friday. The Cardinals and Eagles are both averaging five runs per game, but Newton is allowing seven runs per contest while Pella Christian is giving up nearly ten. Newton is 2-8 in conference games and 6-10 on the season, while the Eagles are 3-11 for the season, with one conference win and ten losses.
The Newton and Pella Christian baseball doubleheader begins on Eagle Lane in Pella at 5:00 p.m. Monday. Game two can be heard live on the KRLS3 Stream following the conclusion of the first game. The softball doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m. with the live broadcast of game two beginning on 92.1 KRLS after game one ends.
