Newton Baseball And Softball Teams Play Non-Conference Road Games

Tonight, the Newton softball and baseball teams will travel to play non-conference opponents in an attempt to snap eight-game losing streaks.

To play the 10-10 Huskies, the baseball team heads to Winterset. With an average of three runs scored and eight runs allowed per game, the Cardinals are 4-20. The Huskies both give up and score six runs per game on average. This season, Winterset has made 51 mistakes, stolen 63 bases, and scored 117 runs. In addition to stealing 49 bases and making 61 mistakes, the Cardinals have scored 79 runs. Cade Bauer is tied for the team lead in runs batted in (12) and leads Newton in hits (24). Dakota Winkleman and Derek Wermager both have twelve RBIs.

Des Moines East will be the opponent for the Cardinals softball team. Despite a 5-15 record, the Scarlets have recently defeated Mason City twice at home. Newton is 6-17, giving up seven runs per game while averaging nearly five. This season, the Cardinals have given up 168 runs on 212 hits while scoring 109 runs on 139 hits.

In addition, the club gave up 60 stolen bases and made 51 mistakes. Chloe Swank has the most runs batted in (18), but Mack Sims leads Newton with 26 hits and a.448 batting average.
