Newton School Board Conducts Superintendent Quarterly Review

The Newton School Board conducted Superintendent Tom Messenger’s quarterly evaluation Tuesday night before adjourning the meeting in closed session. Messenger’s three-year contract has been extended by board members by one year, ending on June 30, 2028. Prior to taking the job, Messenger was the superintendent of Red Oak. He has been the superintendent of Newton for the last six years.

Last night, the most recent updates on the construction projects at Aurora Heights and Thomas Jefferson Elementary schools were also given to the Newton Board of Education. According to Jack Suttek, the maintenance supervisor, the HVAC unit has arrived, and the footings for the addition to Aurora Heights Elementary have been poured. According to Suttek, the new addition’s walls are being painted, the existing office is being demolished, and the outdated HVAC systems are being replaced at Thomas Jefferson Elementary.
