Even though the home team put up a strong fight in game two, the Norwalk Warriors softball team, ranked #2 in 4A, defeated the Pella girls 12-3 and 10-5 on Friday to clinch a season sweep. Game two was broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.
Nyah Hulbert and Bailey Birmingham hit consecutive home runs to give the Warriors the lead in the nightcap. The Dutch came back, loading the bases with two outs for Emma Eekhoff after scoring another run in the top of the third. After the senior hit a two-run single, the Dutch took their first lead in the season series against the Warriors thanks to a field error.
The Warriors showed off their offensive prowess by adding two more home runs, including a backbreaking three-run shot by Birmingham in the top of the seventh, despite numerous opportunities to increase that cushion. In both games, Carly Brewer went deep as well. Hulbert went 8-for-8 at the plate to end the doubleheader.
Following the sweep, Norwalk extends their winning run to nine games, improving to 21-2 overall and 11-2 in the league. Today, they travel to the Oskaloosa Indians softball classic. Pella will play in the Roland-Story event later today after dropping to 10-10 overall and 7-8 in the conference.
