The Class 4A third-ranked Warriors defeated the 4A second-ranked Mustangs 3-2 on Monday afternoon at DC-G, concluding a postponed game from last Thursday. On Monday night, the ninth-ranked Ankeny Centennial baseball team in Class 4A defeated the Norwalk baseball club 8–2.

Softball:

When play resumed in the top of the fifth, the Norwalk softball team had a 2-0 lead over DC-G. The winning RBI was Carly Brewer’s solo home run, which put the score at 3-0. Brewer tossed a four-hitter and kept the Mustangs scoreless the rest of the way, despite the Mustangs scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. She struck out nine batters and gave up just one earned run. For DC-G, Tessa Jones struck out 11 batters in a five-hitter.

Brewer got a walk and went 2-for-2 at the bat. Maddie Gullion delivered an RBI single in the third inning, while Nyah Hulbert opened the game with a home run last week. The Warriors finished 16-2 in conference play and improved to 27-3 overall. Later on Monday, the Mustangs defeated Pella 8-0, and they now only have two league losses. Although Norwalk defeated DC-G 2-1 in the season series, they will split the Little Hawkeye title.

Beau Livingston, the coach of Norwalk, tells KNIA Sports that one of the team’s major objectives for this season is to win the conference. He stated that they find it significant and fulfilling that their efforts were rewarded at the conference. Additionally, I am aware that they have more ambitious plans, and I am eager to pursue them with them.

The Warriors will play their next game against Winterset tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Baseball:

Centennial responded with three runs in the bottom of the first and then added a three-run sixth to defeat the Warriors 8-2 after the Norwalk baseball team built a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Colton Moore, Rhylee Schmidt, and Xavier Bush restricted Norwalk to only three singles that evening. Schmidt had the only RBI for the squad, and Moore scored a run.

Owen Siemens, who gave up four runs in four innings, took the pitching loss. Centennial scored 10 hits in two bullpen innings pitched by Konner Holtorf, who also gave up four runs.

The Warriors will play a doubleheader at Des Moines Roosevelt today at 3:30 after dropping to 11-13 overall.
