Norwalk softball team falls to Ames 13-4

On Wednesday night, Ames trounced the Norwalk softball team 13–4 in non-conference play. After two innings, the third-ranked Warriors in Class 4A led 4-2, but lost the remaining innings to an 11-0 score. The Little Cyclones, ranked 11th in Class 5A, overcame the opposition by scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Norwalk’s seven-hit attack was led by Bailey Birmingham and Maddie Gullion, who both went two for four. Gullion had one RBI, and Birmingham doubled for the team’s lone extra-base hit. Carly Brewer, the warrior ace, took the loss after giving up seven earned runs and nine hits in six innings. Ames improved to 27-10 with just one strikeout during the evening.

Norwalk will participate in two games in today’s Dallas Center-Grimes Classic after dropping to 27-5 overall. The Warriors will play 5A fifth-ranked Johnston after playing Ballard at 2:30.

Baseball:

In addition, the Norwalk baseball team has two afternoon games today. They will travel to Slater to play Class 3A fourth-ranked Ballard in a varsity doubleheader. At noon, the first pitch is scheduled.
