The number of child abuse cases in America is increasing daily, resembling a pandemic. Three people were recently charged with cruelty after police in rural Pennsylvania discovered terrible circumstances inside a home where a toddler was found wandering alone.

Parents Gillian Bem, the children’s 18-year-old aunt, and Dominic and Zoe Zungali, both 31 years old, have been charged with a number of offenses, including animal cruelty, false imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of children. While walking his dog in the Houtz Drive neighborhood of Blair County, Pennsylvania, on Friday, July 18, John Lemon spotted a disoriented young man strolling by himself.

Lemon said the toddler was scared, barefoot, and covered with pee, according to Law & Crime. Mr. John Lemon, worried about his safety, dragged him into the street, led him to safety, and flagged down a bystander to seek for assistance. A startling scene was discovered by Freedom Township police when they got to the boy’s house, which is around 200 miles east of Pittsburgh.

The parents first insisted that all five of their kids were inside, but they eventually acknowledged that one of them had broken out via a window. The team witnessed a horrifying scene as the police officers entered the house and made their way to the children’s bedroom. They discovered bedrooms with exposed wires, ripped drywall, and bad smells.

In one bedroom, filthy blankets and old sippy cups were discovered with a toddler drenched in urine. A chair was used to keep kids from leaving a second bedroom, and a baby gate that was fastened with zip ties and other household objects blocked another entryway. Even worse, police discovered young toddlers in cribs that had been converted into improvised cages. Because the cribs were securely zipped to keep these tiny, defenseless munchkins from escaping, feces were also discovered on the outside.

The cribs were zip-tied: Police claim that five children were kept in improvised cages by their parents for twenty hours a day before a youngster escaped and was discovered by a neighbor.

The children were exhausted and undernourished, and one was particularly hurt, according to the official affidavit. They rushed to eat when the authorities brought them Happy Meals from the well-known fast food restaurant McDonald’s since they were so hungry. Before being sent to a specialist, a two-year-old with purplish legs and a noticeable enlarged tummy was admitted to the hospital.

There was no running water, and there were also reports of neglected pets all over the house. The absence of functional doorknobs in the house made it impossible for kids to leave in safety. It is alleged that Dominic and Zoe Zunga, as well as their aunt Gillian Bem, would lock up children in that shithole they called a home for as long as twenty hours every day.

Bem’s bond is set at $75,000, while the Zungalis are each held on $150,000 bonds. Preliminary hearings for all three are scheduled for July 31. These terrible incidents demonstrate that some people are psychologically ill and incapable of being parents.

Such individuals ought to receive a terrible punishment and spend the rest of their lives behind bars. The children should be placed in a respectable foster home or orphanage by the state, where they will at least receive the necessities of life.

This specific example highlights the depressing and grim side of severe child abuse, when a child’s basic right to adequate living conditions has been violated. We hope that the accused should rot in prison and that the law does justice to the innocent children.
