Pella Christian Baseball Drops Doubleheader to West Marshall in Final Regular Season Games

The Pella Christian baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at West Marshall on Thursday night, 11-1 in five innings and 6-3, in their final practice before postseason play.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Eagles fell behind 8-1 after giving up seven unearned runs in the first two innings. The game was ended by the run-rule in the fifth inning after the Trojans added three more runs in the third inning to finish the scoring. In the nightcap, Pella Christian’s game started off better, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, but West Marshall responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Trojans added four more runs to their advantage in the third inning, and although though Pella Christian scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, they were unable to respond and ended the season with an overall record of 8-21.

Logan Gallaher went 2-2 with two singles in the opening game, making him the first Eagle to register multiple hits. In the second game, Grant Kelderman, Ben Van Wyngarden, and Gallaher each went 2-4 and each of them recorded an RBI. Going 2-3 with a walk and an RBI, Brecken Ritzert also had a number of hits in the nightcap. Pella Christian’s Eliot Menninga lost the first game on the mound, while Grant Kelderman lost the second.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, the Eagles baseball team will travel to James W. Cownie Baseball Park to play Grand View Christian again in the opening round of the Class 2A Substate 6 tournament, marking the start of playoff action. On Tuesday, Pella Christian hosted the Thunder and prevailed 10–9. The rematch on Saturday is broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS at 6:45 p.m.
