The Pella Christian softball team won 5-3 on the road at Sigourney on Wednesday night to wrap up regular season play. It was their eleventh victory of the summer.

With two hits, two walks, and an error to plate two runs in the top of the first inning, the Eagles took the lead early in the game. In the second inning, Pella Christian extended their lead to 2-0 with three more runs on three walks, a hit, a sacrifice bunt, a hit by pitch, and an RBI ground out. Up until Sigourney started their comeback in the seventh inning, the Eagles held a 5-0 advantage. After cutting the lead to 5-1 with back-to-back doubles early in the game, the Savages cut it to 5-3 with no outs thanks to back-to-back singles and an error. Maddy Van Zee turned an unassisted double play at third base to give the Eagles two outs with the tying run approaching the plate, putting their lead in risk and slowing the Sigourney momentum. Van Zee ended the game a batter late, fielding a grounder and stepping on third base to put Pella Christian at 10-15 overall on the season. The Savages then followed it up with a single to bring the game-winning run to the dish.

Laurel Roozeboom went 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs to help the Eagles win for the second consecutive night. In addition, Roozeboom recorded her second straight complete game win in the circle, striking out two batters and giving up just two earned runs on nine hits and three walks. During the game, Amaia Agre and Brynn Roozeboom both recorded two walks and a hit while reaching base three times. The other two runs scored by Pella Christian that evening came from Faith Kacmarynski and Chloe Snyder. Snyder, Addison Bandstra, and Addie Van Arendonk scored the other three Eagle runs in the game, while Agre scored two of the five.

At 7 p.m. on Monday, the Pella Christian softball team hosts New London in the opening round of the Class 2A Region 2 tournament, marking the start of postseason action. Tonight, the Eagles baseball team will play a doubleheader against West Marshall at 5:15 p.m. to wrap out the regular season.
