On Tuesday night, the Eagles baseball team defeated Grand View Christian 10–9, and the Pella Christian softball team defeated North Mahaska 10–1 in six innings, broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Pella Christian softball team started the last week of the regular season with a 1-0 deficit after a single homer in the top of the second inning, but they recovered to take control of the game the rest of the way. After scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning, the Eagles added two more in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Pella Christian improved to 9-15 on the summer after winning 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth and then securing the victory with a four-run frame in the bottom of the sixth. With a career-high six strikeouts and just three baserunners allowed in a full game in the circle, Laurel Roozeboom had a fantastic night for the Eagles. She went 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a double. With three hits each, Rachel Kacmarynski, Faith Kacmarynski, and Chloe Snyder led Pella Christian in their collective 15-hit total. Even though playoff play is quickly approaching, Brynn Roozeboom, who contributed two hits to the victory, stated that they are concentrating on battling at every pitch.
We are taking each game as it comes and are not planning for the future. And I’m confident that we can accomplish this if we concentrate on each game and approach it one pitch at a time. It doesn’t matter who is in the opposing dugout; we just need to concentrate on the current game. I’m confident that positive things will occur if we play Pella Christian softball.
Against Grand View Christian, the Eagles dominated the game in the early going but needed heroics in the closing moments to prevail. Pella Christian scored nine consecutive runs in the first through third innings to grab a 9-1 lead after the Thunder scored one run in the top of the first. Grand View Christian rallied to tie the score at 9-9 with a run in the sixth inning after rallying to score seven runs in a row in the fourth and fifth innings to get within 9-8. Logan Gallaher was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth, advanced to third on a mishandled pickoff attempt, and scored the Eagles’ game-winning run on a wild pitch. Pella Christian’s offensive leader, Brecken Ritzert, went 3-5 and scored three runs. In two bullpen innings, Logan Gallaher won the victory while allowing only one unearned run on one hit and two walks. With two singles and three RBIs that evening, Ben Van Wyngarden improved the Eagles’ record to 8–20 for the season.
The Eagles baseball team will play a doubleheader at West Marshall on Thursday to conclude the regular season, while the Pella Christian softball team will wind off the season tonight at 5:30 p.m. against Sigourney. Below is the complete interview with Brynn Roozeboom.
