Even though Knoxville got out to a fast start, Pella’s offensive was the mainstay of Tuesday’s 9-1, five-inning victory, which was broadcast live on KNIA and KRLS.
The Dutch responded with five runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second inning after the Panthers scored in the opening frame thanks to three free baserunners and a fielding mistake by the Dutch. Pella found the winning run in the fourth inning before closing the door in the top of the fifth, although the Panthers were able to strand him in the third inning due to a bases-loaded situation.
In the circle for Pella, Emma Eekhoff earned the victory by striking out four Panthers batters while allowing one hit and one unearned run.
The Little Hawkeye Conference varsity game between the Dutch and Newton is scheduled to air on 92.1 KRLS at 7:15 p.m. tonight. The Dutch have improved to 9-8 overall. In addition to hosting the Cardinals on the KRLS3 stream, the #2 in 3A Pella baseball club is also available to watch on YouTube at Pella Dutch Live.
Knoxville heads to Cardinal this evening after dropping to 1-10 overall.
