The Pleasantville softball team split their doubleheaders in the West Central Conference, while the Pleasantville baseball club swept Earlham at home on Friday night.
Due to postponed games earlier in the week, the baseball and softball teams both resumed delayed games against the Cardinals in game one of their doubleheaders. Pleasantville’s annual Cancer Crusher night, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society, included Friday’s games as well.
Game one was won 15-0 by the Trojan baseball club, which was rated #2. On the mound, Brayden Kennedy recorded a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the victory. In the first game, Logan Roff, Kennedy, and Brody Adreon each had two hits, Braylon Bingham had a double and a home run, and JJ Phillips had three hits.
Pleasantville prevailed 8-1 in the second game. The winning pitcher, Braylon Bingham, recorded ten strikeouts in four innings while allowing no runs on three hits. Easton Cox pitched the final three innings with two hits and seven strikeouts while allowing no earned runs. Easton Cox and Brody Adreon both had two hits at the plate, JJ Phillips had two RBI, while Bingham had two hits, including a home run. The Pleasantville baseball team’s season record now stands at 23-1.
The Trojan softball team defeated the Cardinals 5-3 in the first game. Ella Clark had three hits in the first game, while seven Trojans in all recorded hits, for a team total of nine. In game one, Lainey Kennedy threw all seven innings, striking out two batters while allowing two earned runs.
The Trojans defeated 3-1 in the second game. The Trojans only managed two hits during the game, and Pleasantville’s only run came on a squeeze bunt by Kally Wysong that scored Ella Clark. According to coach Alee Phillips, her team had a few chances to put runners in scoring position but was unable to do so. She said the game was good overall and believes they should have won, but they were unable to finish offensively and made a few defensive mistakes that caused them pain. The Trojan softball team’s season record now stands at 15-9.
On Monday night, the Pleasantville softball and baseball teams will make the trip to Interstate 35.
