Today at noon, the new Westwood Golf Course Clubhouse will be officially opened by the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce. On February 26th of last year, work on rebuilding the existing clubhouse—once a modest house—began. The 100 x 60 clubhouse was constructed by Urbandale’s Ball Team LLC for $699,000. Because to low water pressure, the building is opening without a sprinkler system in place. Under a memorandum of understanding with Jasper County and a variance from the Iowa Department of Inspection, Appeals, and Licensing, the clubhouse can accommodate up to 99 people without any restrictions until the City of Newton installs a larger water main this year to address the issue.
