Joe Steinkamp, who was named the new head coach of the boys basketball team at Pella Christian on Wednesday, is thrilled about the chance to contribute to the program’s rich history.
For 18 of his 20 years as a collegiate basketball coach, Steinkamp was at Central collegiate. Before taking over as head coach of the women’s basketball team from 2017 to 22, Joe worked for the Dutch men’s basketball program for ten years as an assistant coach. He was selected the 2023 American Rivers Conference coach of the year after rejoining the men’s program as head coach in 2022. Steinkamp recorded a 57-28 record with the Central men, helped the program win the American Rivers Conference tournament and secure their 12th NCAA Division III playoff spot this past winter, and helped the college win its 18th conference title in 2023. Although leaving Central wasn’t an easy choice, Steinkamp said he is excited to be taking over a program at Pella Christian that is brimming with talent and energy.
I am quite excited with the children’s attitude alone. They are quite promising. Pella Christian basketball teams, in my opinion, have always been of a decent length and size, and I believe that this bunch is no exception. I want to continue the tradition at Pella Christian, and I believe that the guys’ attitudes and leadership will be very high as a result of being able to do some new things with them.
