Thursdays in Pella Brought Area Racing Tradition to Tulip City

The rich tradition of racing from throughout the region took over Pella’s downtown square at this week’s Thursdays in Pella.

The theme was Race Night, and featured dozens of vehicles on display, including sprint cars, modifieds, dragsters, stock cars, outlaw karts, and more. Several area race car drivers were on hand to meet fans, the World of Outlaws had their fan zone, Pella Motors and Bank Iowa were giving out Hot Wheels to kids, and Hy-Vee had their Indy Car on display. Eleven area raceways were featured, including Knoxville, English Creek, Southern Iowa, 34, Eddyville, Iowa (Newton), Boone, Marshalltown, Stuart International, PCRC, and the Newton Kart Club. Several driver interviews were also held on the Tulip Toren, including 2024 Knoxville Raceway 360 Sprint Car Champion Jamie Ball.

“We love Thursday Nights in Pella.” Ball said, “What Lori [Cutter] does over here and just the way that Pella supports everything done on this Thursday Nights in Pella is amazing. The fans come out, man, it starts at six and there’s people rolling in at five o’clock. We didn’t bring our car this year just because it was raining in Knoxville, but we circle this on our schedule every year and I have sponsors over here. I’ve got about ten sponsors on my car and six of them are from here in Pella. We’ve got Craig Ford, Randall Roofing, Janssen Fabrication, DC Underground, Atomic Pressure Washing, and Van Gorp Construction, so Pella understands the importance of Knoxville Raceway and we want to be here to support them.”

The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio is broadcasting from every Thursdays in Pella this summer.
