Donald Trump has had a turbulent few months, even by his own standards. Furthermore, things are going to get a little more tricky, even though he may have enjoyed the thought of getting away from all the charges of corruption and sleaze by traveling to the Scottish highlands and playing golf with the boys.
And it all stems from the Commander in Chief’s apparent connections to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sexual offender.
According to the Guardian, things started to get a little messy for the President when his name appeared on a list of friends and acquaintances of Epstein’s who contributed to a 2003 book that congratulated the sexual abuser on his 50th birthday.
Trump had previously denied that he was involved in the book’s art and the signing of a sexually explicit message.
Where there is smoke, there is typically fire, and in this instance, there is a lot of fire, despite the fact that Trump and his fans responded to the news reports about the birthday book with his characteristic venom and labeled it fake news.
Although Trump is trying to sue the Wall Street Journal, which uncovered the findings, for $10 billion and has barred Journal reporters from covering this weekend’s trip to Scotland, there is also the minor issue of Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Former President Bill Clinton is also listed in the book under the friends group.
Maxwell is presently incarcerated for 20 years in a federal prison for his involvement in a child sex trafficking conspiracy. She is scheduled to have another conversation with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche today after their initial Thursday encounter. Who knows what kind of a mess the disgraced British socialite, who is contesting her conviction, might unleash?
Trump merely responded, “I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I have not thought about,” when reporters questioned him about potential clemency for the daughter of the late newspaper mogul Robert Maxwell before he departed the White House for Scotland this morning.
However, when Trump attempts to line up a putt on the fairways this weekend, the entire continuing and vile affair is sure to be on his mind. Will it impact more than just his swing, one wonders?
According to The Independent, Trump was anticipated to land this Friday night in his mother’s family home to an odd mixture of adulation and contempt.
The Scottish taxpayers are feeling the brunt of Trump’s presence on their bonny shores! The President’s visit to his favorite golf resorts in Scotland will cost the recalcitrant Scots millions of pounds and need a large police effort.
Protester Merle Fertuson cried out, “Why isn’t he paying for it himself?” Protests are scheduled over the entire weekend. Isn’t he coming to play golf? It has absolutely nothing to do with US or UK public funds.
Trump’s four-day trip to the UK in 2018 cost $19 million. This time, Police Scotland would only state that it was significant without providing the precise amount.
According to Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond, the visit will necessitate a major police operation including local, national, and specialized resources from throughout Police Scotland, assisted by colleagues from other U.K. police forces as part of mutual aid agreements.
As Trump tries to play golf, the operation will involve around 5,000 officers.
